The Handmaid’s Tale Art Print (Reza Turani – Artist)
Published in 1985, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian masterpiece. Set in the fictional realm of Gilead, formerly a part of New England, Offred is given only one role in her cruel and patriarchal society; to breed. If she dissents, she will be hanged like all those who rebelled before her, or sent out to die in the nuclear wasteland that lies beyond Gilead’s borders. But even the most oppressive state cannot supress desire, and the danger that it brings. The Handmaid’s Tale won dozens of awards on its release, and the acclaimed TV series which aired in 2016 helped bring the novel to the attention of a new generation. Inspired in part by the imagery of the TV show.
